New BNA Database - Infrastructure Investment & Policy Report

BNA has added Infrastructure Investment & Policy Report to our BNA-ALL package. This publication tracks the flow of federal, state, local, and other infrastructure funds into large-scale investment projects in the U.S. It takes a comprehesnive look at federal and state actions, including reauthorization of federal surface transportation legislation, Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization, high speed rail initiatives, annual appropriations for the Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, EPA, DOE, and DOT, as well as extensive coverage of the oversight and use of stimulus funds.

Attention Westlaw Users: Westlaw Changing Sign-On Procedures Starting 6/21/09

Just a heads up to let you know that beginning June 21, 2009, upon logging into Westlaw, you will see a message advising you to create a OnePass account, or update your existing OnePass account, to meet new security requirements.  There is a grace period to make this change up to and including September 29, 2009, after which you will not have access to Westlaw using the old method. A OnePass account is a user name and password, created by you, that can be used across various Westlaw applications, such as lawschool.westlaw.com (including access to TWEN), westacademic.com, and westlaw.com.  With OnePass, West-issued passwords will become a thing of the past as you create your own user name and password to protect your identity and the information you access.  When you log on after June 21st, the system will walk you through the process of creating your OnePass user name and password.

To provide you a heads-up about what the system will require, the new username and password will have to meet the following requirements. Your new username will need to be from 8 to 70 characters, and at least 2 of those characters must have at least 2 of the following attributes:

uppercase letter(s)
lowercase letter(s)
number(s)
the following special characters:  a period, hyphen, @, or underscore

There will also be the typical choosing of a security question, in case you lose your user name and password information.

In a universe already cluttered with passwords, having to create yet another one will be annoying.  If you need any help, please contact the Reference Desk, ext. 1458.

New Displays - "Legal Ethics in the Movies" and "Will the Bush Administration Be Tried for War Crimes?"

Please stop by our new second floor displays located inside the reading room on the second floor and lounge respectively. "Legal Ethics in the Movies" highlights ethical dilemmas encountered by both movie lawyers and real practitioners. “Will the Bush Administration Be Tried for War Crimes?” calls attention to new library materials related to the subjects of the “War on Terror” and international efforts to prosecute high ranking officials of George W. Bush’s administration for possible war crimes.  Let us know what you think!

New CyberCites Issue - Legal Careers

A new CyberCites issue on the topic of Legal Careers was prepared jointly between the Library staff and the Office of Career Services.

Westlaw and Lexis Passwords for Summer 2009

Many students have been asking about access to Westlaw and Lexis over the summer. Both services permit summer usage as follows: Westlaw services are extended to non-graduating law students participating in a qualifying summer activity. Qualifying summer activities include: (1) summer law school classes; (2) law review or journal work; (3) work for a professor; (4) moot court; or (5) unpaid, non-profit public interest internships, externships or pro bono work that fulfills a law school requirement. Students who fit into these categories have standard academic access. A graduating 3L studying for the bar may extend his or her Westlaw password before graduation, and receive 10 hours of Westlaw to use in June and July.

Lexis: Lexis services are extended to students who need to use their Lexis accounts for academic purposes. Academic purposes include the same categories listed above for Westlaw except with regard to category (5), Lexis does not extend access for students working for non-profits. However, it does provide access for research associated with pursuing a grant or scholarship, or a clerkship for credit. A graduating 3L studying for the bar has full access to his or her Lexis account for academic purposes in June and July, but must register for this summer use as described below. Additionally, a 3L who has deferred professional practice in order to pursue public service can apply for free access to certain Lexis services. To find out if you qualify for this last option, go to www.lexisnexis.com/aspire.

Both services begin their limited access policies on or about May 31st. If you have a valid reason for full access to either, you must sign up on the links provided on both vendors’ law school home pages. Any questions about these policies, call Renee at 413-782-1458.

Photocopy Cards

The Library will be moving to a new photocopy machine system as of May 23. Please do not put any extra money on your copy card, unless you plan to use it up by May 23.

Linking from WILDPAC to Library Homepage

If you are using WILDPAC and want to link back to the Library homepage from within the WILDPAC screen, you must use the "Campus Links" in the upper right corner of the screen. WILDPAC is an integrated catalog that we share with D'Amour Library, so we cannot have a direct link back to one home library, as there are two libraries.
